Canon Inc. and Canon Medical Systems Corporation have been developing a technology platform for iPS cell production with the CiRA Foundation.

Canon’s corporate philosophy is kyosei. We aim to establish a society where all people can live long and happily in harmony with each other. We are supporting the “my iPS” Project, which aims for society to benefit from regenerative medicine.

We have conducted research and development to reconcile two conflicting issues: quality improvement and cost reduction. We are using our advanced optical measurement/analysis technologies, quality control technologies, and manufacturing technologies backed up by the Canon group’s strength in monozukuri (Design and Manufacturing). For the development of medical equipment, we fulfill government regulations to ensure the safety of all our products. We are developing technology platforms for iPS cell production for the “my iPS” Project by incorporating our experience and expertise in clinical laboratory equipment. We are currently conducting research and development of a closed, automated iPS cell production technology platform that is optimal for the “my iPS” concept.

The realization of this technology platform is not a mere extension of the present process. This will lead to iPS cell production equipment based on novel concepts. We aim to automatically control and stabilize the iPS cell production process, elucidate the basic mechanism of how iPS cells are generated, and use our findings as solutions for various issues.

We are committed to the manufacturing of iPS production equipment developed with the CiRA Foundation to realize the “my iPS” Project.
